Revd Dr Simon Jones (Fellows' 3:2) has been Chaplain of Merton since 2002. As
well as being responsible for the day to day life of the Chapel, Simon also
co-ordinates the various College welfare bodies and convenes the College
hardship and patronage committees. He is always happy to speak in confidence
with any member of College (regardless of religious affiliation) concerning
any matter, and can be contacted by email (simon.jones@merton.ox.ac.uk)
or by 'phone (01865 276365).
Before coming to Merton, Simon served his curacy at Tewkesbury Abbey in the Diocese of Gloucester. He trained for ordination at Westcott House in Cambridge, and, as a member of Selwyn College, completed a PhD in Syrian baptismal theology. His current research interests include Eucharistic Presidency, and the influence of Dom Gregory Dix (Merton 1920-23) on liturgical scholarship and revision. He is a Consultant to the Church of England Liturgical Commission and also liturgy tutor at St Stephen's House, Oxford.

Davison) The Revd Dr Andrew Davison became Junior Chaplain in 2006. He is a former
student of the College and currently the doctrine tutor at St Stephen's House,
combining this post with part-time research for a Cambridge PhD on Thomas
Aquinas. Andrew assists with Chapel services and activities and can be
contacted most easily by email (andrew.davison@ssho.ox.ac.uk). Before moving
to Oxford, Andrew was Assistant Curate at St Dunstan's, Bellingham, in the
Diocese of Southwark.

They are responsible for organising weekday and Sunday readers and servers, welcoming people to services, communicating services and events to those on the chapel mailing list, and helping out in general.
James is a first year Chemist who spends most of his time messing about in boats. He is a keen orienteer and sings in the Oxford Student Chorus. When at home, he attends services at St Giles, Ashtead, where he reads the lesson regularly. He is very much looking forward to joining the choir on their summer tour to Vienna!
Phil is a second year English student who likes acting, reading and playing the guitar. His main activities in the Chapel last year were reading and taking advantage of the free food!

The sacristans help with the organisation of services.

The Organ Scholar is responsible for music in Chapel. This year's Organ
Scholar is Chris Chan, who is a second year music student. He can be

Born near Canterbury in Kent, Chris was a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral, attending the choir school of St. Edmund's, Canterbury. Continuing as a Music Scholar into the senior school, Chris's completion of his Piano Grade 8 inspired him to begin studying the organ with Choirmaster and Cathedral Organist, David Flood.

Simon is a final year student at St Stephen's House, who will be ordained deacon in the summer to serve in the parish of St Mary, Tottenham. Matthew is in his second year at Wycliffe Hall.
